Rodeo Tourist Gift Package

Each year on Thursday, The Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo Committee, with the help of the local sheriff, ventures out on to I-90 Interstate to find some unsuspecting tourist to present a gift package!

Once they decide on a vehicle, they proceed to pull them over, flashing lights and all, to present them with a package containing:

  • Key to the City of Mitchell from Mayor Jordan Hanson
  • Gift Basket from the Chamber of Commerce
  • Room for the night at the Comfort Inn of Mitchell
  • Dinner from the Depot
  • Crow's Nest Seats for Thursday's Performance

Parade Marshal
"Dan Allen"

Image
Dan Allen was born and raised in Mitchell, SD where his roots run deep. In 1980, he married the love of his life, Lori (Thompson), and together they built a beautiful family.

Dan began his career at Shanard's Inc. in 1979, working full-time with a dream in his heart --- to one day own the business. That dream became a reality when he and Lori purchased the company from his friend and mentor, George Shanard. Under their leadership, the business thrived, built on a foundation of exceptional service, strong relationships, and good old-fashioned common sense. They successful ran Big Green Fertilizer until 2005, when health concerns led them to make the difficult decision to sell.

But as one chapter closed, another opened. Dan found a new way to serve his community by joining the Mitchell City Council. Over the next 20 years, he represented two different wards with integrity and dedication, always striving to do what was best for the citizens of Mitchell.

Throughout his adult life, Dan has remained deeply committed to the well-being of Mitchell and the people who call it home.
