2024 Parade Marshal:  Palace City Lions

John FThe Palace City Lions are honored to be recognized as the 2024 Parade Marshal for the Corn Palace Stampede rodeo parade.  For the past 17 years our club has been able to raise funds at the rodeo originally selling programs and for the last number of years beer to its patrons.  As a 29 member club, we are dedicated to helping our community and embracing the Lions Club International pillars of service:  Vision, Hunger, Diabetes, Cancer, and Environment

Throughout the last 10 years, our fundraising efforts have given us the opportunity to donate more than $300,000 dollars to Mitchell, the surrounding community and also internationally.  We collect, clean and sort thousands of donated glasses.  Members of Palace City Lions have traveled to Mexico on mission trips to hand out glasses to the visually impaired.  We assisted citizens of the Mitchell and surrounding area with eye exams and glasses at no charge to them.  We purchased two Spot Vision Screening Cameras in 2014 and screen more than 1500 children annually at the beginning of the school year to ensure that those in need have glasses.  We are initiating a hearing exam program beginning fall of 2024 school year.  We've sponsored a Make-A-Wish trip and donate annually to the local cancer walk and donated to multiple veteran organizations.  We also held a cook out to thank our first responders, and supported the local Search and Rescue group.  We made donations to the police and fire department to purchase a medical training practice dummy and to purchase body cameras for the police.  We provided funds for the speed notification lights at the intersections of our local schools.  We have aided the local diabetes foundation to help those in need of diabetic supplies.  We adopted the Longfellow Lions elementary school and have provided them with much needed school supplies.  The Palace City Lions assisted a blind veteran in the application and interviewing process to receive a life changing Seeing Eye dog at no cost to him.  Our current project is the pollination garden at the Lions Point Park near the west end bridge.

We continue to volunteer our time and energy to help the city of Mitchell and its residents.  If you are interested in becoming a Lion, please talk to us at the beer ticket booth or come to one of our meetings.  We meet at 6:30 pm the first Thursday of each month at Marlins restaurant.  Again, we are honored to be the 2024 Corn Palace City Stampede Rodeo Parade Grad Marshals.  Thank you!
